Unless you are a snowbird or an intrepid cold-weather camper, you probably have a little extra time on your hands now that winter has arrived in earnest. If you are impatiently waiting for the next camping season to begin, there’s no better time than to improve your RV efficiency and finish all those little “you know, we out to…” projects that can make living in your RV so much easier and more enjoyable.

Here are 10 tips and tricks you can use to improve the usability and efficiency of your RV.

1. Hooks, Hooks, Hooks – Stay organized and maximize all the surfaces in your RV with hooks in variety of styles and sizes. Permanent and adhesive hooks are a great way to utilize your wall space throughout your RV. Add them to the inside of your cabinet doors, under the cupboards and even stick them on your storage compartments.

2. Improve natural light and reduce that “busy” look by removing superfluous window dressings, valences and other decorative touches that don’t actually serve any purpose. Keep the blinds and curtains for privacy but without the extra flourishes, there will be fewer surfaces to collect dust and it could make it easier to reach the blinds and other window hardware.

3. Hang a plastic closet rod in the shower to hang damp clothing to dry when the shower is not in use.

4. Install hardware inside of cupboard doors for flat storage of knives, cutting boards or other small items.

5. Add rubber shelf liners to reduce shifting of dishes, plates and glasses inside cupboards, drawers and closets while the rig is in motion.

6. Transfer spices and other foods traditionally sold in round containers into square containers for easier and more efficient stacking.

7. Forget those overcrowded remote control caddies for your RV. Instead, Velcro your remote controls to the entertainment center or couch to keep them safe and secure.

8. Invest in a Wi-Fi reception booster. Even if your RV park offers free Wi-Fi, it’s usually not very powerful. This simple, inexpensive tool will help strengthen your signal.

9. Use a plastic hanging shoe organizer to stay organized in the shower, around the base of the bed or foot of the couch. Whether you are storing shoes, shampoos, utensils or whatever else will fit in those handy pouches, this clever design is the perfect hack for pint-sized stuff of our lives.

10. Have you ever been locked out of your RV, miles away from civilization or a locksmith? If only you had a spare key hidden under the proverbial flowerpot. That’s the idea behind a magnetic key holder box. Attach this secure box in a discreet spot under the frame of the rig and you’ll never find yourself stranded with your keys locked inside the vehicle or lost at the bottom of the lake.
